Rihanna For River Island - The Verdict

There's been quite a build up surrounding the Rihanna for River Island collection and I must admit, I was particularly keen to see what the pop diva would pull out of the bag when it came to getting her design on.

I have to say, I've got mixed feelings about the collection. I'm very much an embellishment kind of girl and this collection is quite (dare I say it) plain. In true Rihanna style there's a lot of skin revealed through various thigh high slits and cut outs in the fabric, some of the clothing is completely impractical - I wouldn't just go out in a bra like top (unless maybe I was going to the gym). Plus our truly British weather simply wouldn't allow for it without catching pneumonia!

On the other hand, there is something quite interesting about the collection as it's different, it represents her style and the minimalist designs make you really focus on the shape of the garment as oppose to if there were prints featured on it. It's not the usual type of clothing I'd be drawn to as it's quite edgy however for her first stab at designing, I don't think Rihanna has done too badly.

What are your thoughts on the Rihanna for River Island collection?

The new collection launches in selected stores and online on 5th March 2013

  1. I love the dungarees but other than that, I'm with you on this one- quite impractical! I suppose we won't know 100% until we actually see it on the rails x

  2. For some reason, it wasn't what I was expecting and it is sort of plain. But the cut of the garments are lovely and I think with some big chunky jewelery it could be jazzed up. I agree with you on this that it'd not made for British weather! haha

  3. I was really excited to see the collection, and im pretty disappointed. I don't think the clothes are that wearable.

  4. I'm not sure how much of this stuff I would actually wear, but it does definitely reflect her style! And I guess if you were going to design a collection, you'd fill it with all the stuff you'd want to wear.

  5. I agree that it is really plain! The cuts on the fabric really do represent her style. I'm not sure how I feel about it, will have to go to RI and see it in person when it's out. xx
