London Retro Specs

Fitzrovia Frames by London Retro, £79 from My Optique

Specs, glasses, blinkers, goggles whatever you want to call them... For some, they're a fashion statement and for others (like myself) they're an evil necessity. Or that is, I thought of them as an evil necessity until last month when these lovely, vintage-inspired London Retro frames dropped on my doorstep.

I've been wearing glasses (followed swiftly by contact lenses) since I was in Year 6 at school. They became the bane of my life quite early on, particularly because when you're 10 years old, glasses just don't seem very cool. Children's glasses weren't overly fashionable back then and so I felt that they were more of a hinderance than a help. In other words, I was never a proud specs wearer.

This attitude towards my eyesight - and glasses in general - stayed with me throughout secondary school and college. As soon as it became apparent that I needed to wear glasses full time, and as soon as I could get my hands on contact lenses, I got them. And that's the way it's been since. Last year some of you will remember me showing off my new glasses from Specsavers which happened to be quite the landmark in my glasses-wearing career. In fact, a lot of you probably didn't know much about my terrible eyesight - or that I wore glasses for that matter - until this instagram picture...

Much has changed since then and I feel like I'm now embracing being a 'four eyes' far more. Thanks to these London Retro bad boys, 2014 may well be the year that you see me sporting my specs on the regz. Well, until I develop the funds (read: balls) to get laser eye surgery anyway...

  3. I love your glasses on you. I'm the same and had glasses from about the age of 12, quickly switching to contacts. Unfortunately I don't suit glasses at all (I suit hats instead) so have stuck with my contacts since but I wish I could wear a nice pair of glasses as well as you can.

  4. You look adorable. Wear your glasses with pride!
